How to make Fondant Mushrooms
Start by melting some red chocolate candy melts. I melted mine in a metal bowl over a pot of simmering water.
Then you need fondant. You could use white, green, brown, whatever color you like or you have on hand. Peel off a small portion.
Roll it into a ball
Pull the bottom down until you get a stem, then use your fingers to pinch around the top of the ball to make the bottom of the mushroom. Then shape the top to a rounded point.
Insert a tooth pick into the bottom. (I wonder if you could use a tootsie roll? It would taste better...)
Dip just the top into the red melted chocolate. (I took photos in the evening, the lighting was terrible, I apologie the colors are off).
Pull the mushroom straight up out of the chocolate.
I placed mine in a bowl full of rice, so they would stand up. Then I sprinkled some white sprinkles on top while the chocolate was still wet.
Once they were dry, I added them to the cupcakes and base of the mossy mushrooms.
