This weekend I taught a cupcake and cookie decorating class at my wards Super Saturday. I thought I'd post a few photos of my display, and then I promised the ladies in my class that I would post some links to websites I talked about in the class.
Cookie Cutters: I orginally purchased a big box of 100 Wilton cutters at Wal-mart. This gave me a bunch of cutters for every season as well as the entire alphabet and numbers. For most people, this is plenty of cutters...probably more than you would ever want or need. But I wanted to get some obscure cutters, (an acorn for example). I searched the internet for a while trying to find a place that had a good variety but reasonable prices. The place I purchased from is called The Cookie Cutter Shop
Layer Cake Shop: This is a new online store that has decent prices and a pretty good selection. You can get cute Baking cups, toppers, sprinkles, packaging etc at this store. I also like that you can shop by season.
But like I said in class, you can make you own cute toppers with some paper, stickers and sticks. You can use different colored icing, or use other items from the store, like peeps and sprinkles. If you shop for sprinkles during the holiday seasons, you can get them for less expensive then the specialty shops. The sprinkles I used on these cupcakes I purchased at Maceys grochery in the bakery section. They were 4 oz for $1.99 or 8 oz for $3.99.
Fancy Flours: I really really love this site. They have great ideas and tutorials and they have a HUGE selection. They are a little more expensive than the Layer Cake Shop linked above, but they offer much more. This is also where I purchased the Wafer papers I was trying to explain in class.
This is a (terrible) photo of me telling everyone about AmeriColor food coloring. If you already have a bunch of wilton colors, they work fine. I purchased the AmeriColor in order to get a black and a red frosting. They are the only brand I have found to get you a deep red or a dark black with only one or two drops. They do not give your frosting a bitter taste. I like them so much that I am slowly replacing all my wilton colors with AmeriColor. I also purchase these at the Layer Cake Shop. Click here to see their options. You can also get them at Bake it Pretty, they are a little less expense, but its hard to tell what color you are getting from their site. Bake it Pretty also offers the Baking cups, toppers and sprinkles.
There you have it.
Post a comment if you have any questions, or if I forgot to post something. I will post the recipe for my favorite chocolate cake in another post.
Happy Halloween!

Is there anything you can't do? And it all turns out gorgeous!
